Family Therapy
I am an experienced family and child therapist, and have specialized in working with children from toddler-aged to adolescent, as well as with intact, divorced, and blended families.

I find that families having behavioral problems with a younger child often do best in a form of parent effectiveness therapy that minimizes the participation of the child in sessions. I work to assist parents in the development of a practical parenting plan that they can take home to target problem behaviors in their younger children. Difficulties at school can also be effectively addressed with this type of therapy.

Families experiencing difficulties with adolescent children usually require several family sessions for assessment, prior to determining the appropriate course of therapy. Therapy in these cases usually involves some work with the adolescent individually, interspersed by family sessions geared towards problem-solving. I have never found therapy as punishment to be an effective tool for changing behavior.

My experience with divorcing and post-divorce families allows me to assist in minimizing the harmful long-term effects of divorce on the children involved, by finding ways to diminish the conflict between the parents and by devising parenting plans that emphasize the needs of the children.
